Stop The War On Fluoridation

Standard

“Do you realize that fluoridation is the most monstrously conceived and dangerous communist plot we have ever had to face?”   – Gen. J.D. Ripper

This quote is from Stanley Kubrick’s 1964 comedy masterpiece Dr. Stranglove.

50 years later, fluoridation still incites fear and paranoia. What has changed is that the Internet has given a louder, more projective voice to doubters. Because of the Internet, the anti-fluoridation movement has morphed from comedic outlier to organized political agenda

70 years have passed since fluoridation of public water supplies was introduced to the world right here in Grand Rapids Michigan. This has been ranked as one of the top 10 greatest public health achievements of the 20th century.

75% of American communities provide fluoride, preventing 25% of cavities that would happen without this public service. $1 spent on public water fluoride saves cost to $40 in dental treatment costs.

There is a massive amount of credible evidence that optionally fluoridated water is safe to drink, does not cause systemic disease and provides the best protection against cavities in both children and adults over the course of a lifetime.

A report in the journal of the Massachusetts Dental Society shows that opponents of community water fluoridation dominate Internet and social media discussions of the topic. I was flabbergasted to learn of a Grand Rapids Michigan mayoral candidate advocating for the cessation of fluoridation.  I have a suspicion that anti-fluoride advocates share many traits with the anti-vaccination crowd.

In light of this, I am providing websites so that you may see better.

The National Institutes of Health have posted a brief report explaining how powerful an impact fluoridation has had on children in Grand Rapids Michigan www.nidcr.nih.gov/oralhealth/topics/fluoride/thestoryoffluoridation.htm
